Groundbreaking starts Summer 2021.

In response to the 2018 Thousand Oaks shooting at Borderline Bar and Grill that tragically claimed 12 lives, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation is embarking on a historic project to fund and construct a new tactical, live-fire training facility. This facility will be named in honor of Sgt. Ron Helus, killed while protecting those in harm’s way.

The goal of the Sgt. Ron Helus Training Facility is to provide the tools our Sheriff’s Deputies need to properly train and prepare for modern-day threats. The highlight of the facility will be a two-story live-fire ballistic structure that deputies and cooperating agencies can train in, any time of day, any day of the year. The design and construction of the structure will allow those training to become familiar with the stresses of maneuvering, coordinating, and securing a location under live-fire conditions.

Community support for the new facility has been overwhelming – even during the COVID-19 outbreak. Business and individuals alike have offered to assist in the effort, as well as donate much needed capital. To date, the Foundation has raised half of the $800,000 needed to fully fund this vision – in less than a year.

In an effort to further expand exposure for the project and honor Sgt. Ron Helus, Rusnak Porche and Ghost Shield of Newbury Park partnered up to create a one-of-a-kind #Hero911 Porsche. The #Hero911 has been wrapped to replicate a racing inspired Ventura County Sheriff patrol vehicle to engage our local community and increase public awareness for the new facility.  No public funds were used for this #Hero911 promotion.
