Shop With A Cop 2016 was our biggest ever, as evidenced by the live channel 5 KTLA coverage and re-broadcasts throughout the day! Your membership, along with donations from sponsors, helped provide over 125 under-resourced youth with a $100 Target Christmas shopping spree. The kids were identified and selected by Deputies and school resource officers on a needs-basis, and for many, this program provided the only Christmas gifts they would receive. Perhaps the most heart-warming part was watching some of the kids use their gift card to purchase presents for parents or siblings instead of themselves.
Event chairs Deputy Mario Molina and Deputy Virginia Tinoco, along with longtime VCSF Board Members Amy Fukutomi and Christina Conley, spearheaded this year’s event. After a parade of VCSO vehicles ushered in Santa, the children were paired and shopped with Deputies and California Highway Patrol officers from the Ventura office. Outside, volunteers from the Foundation Board, Ambassadors and friends of the Sheriff’s office served breakfast (courtesy of Western Bagel and Best Donuts in Westlake Village and Donut Depot in Thousand Oaks) and wrapped the gifts.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership, which enables us to build relationships with the community through special events like this.
